Associate Street Hunter
Passionate and focused on the hunt John Hughes has been a street photographer since his early teens. John was introduced to photography at the age of 12 when his photography teacher identified that he had an aptitude for street photography, something that was rare amongst his peers. John has fond memories of this time and believes that Mr Littlewood’s kind act of giving him Bruce Davidson‘s book, Subway, was a pivotal moment for him and went on to ignite his life long passion for street photography.
He lives in a small town in Suffolk UK, however you can find him hunting on the streets of Cambridge and London. John works with Fujifilm camera X system, which he finds fits perfect for his style of Street photography, this allows him to blend in and to not disturb the moments. He focuses all his passion into street photography and capturing those moments that would otherwise be lost to time. He is heavy influenced by the movies he grow up watching like Blade Runner and the films of John Carpenter, the colours and shadows used by cinematographers like Dean Cundey & Jordan Cronenweth have played a massive influence to his growth as a street photographer. He has emulated this experience through his work.
John has been a minimalist for around 18th months, his conviction to this lifestyle and ethos and pervaded every facet of his life including photography. This can be seen through his approach and in his photos. John whole heartedly believes in minimalism as a way to focus on the important things and simplify his life. He argues that this approach has been instrumental in changing his photography for the better.
John will continue his hunt for the perfect moment, he loves being on the streets and he doesn’t see this ending anytime soon.
