The Holidays are upon us and it is a time of joy and gifts! A time where we usually get new things or even better we are given new things! As Street Photographers, most of us are also gadget enthusiasts and in search for the perfect camera accessories. We keep on finding ourselves on shiny eshops looking through they goodies and making our wish lists. Some of us might have basic needs, like a new camera, but others are out searching for that one thing (or many things) that will make all the difference to them the next time they are out on the street, taking photographs. What is on your wishlist this Holiday season? Have you thought about it? Well, I have thought about it and have come up with a short list. In addition I also asked the other Street Hunters what they would like for Christmas as well as some other photographer friends and this is the list filled of their awesome ideas, ideas which you might find useful!

Introduction

I always find a plethora of YouTube channels available about any subject, no matter how crazy it is. So naturally I thought that if I searched for Street Photography channels I would get loads of hits in the search results. Well, I was wrong. It turns out that there aren’t many Street Photography YouTube channels out there after all. As a matter of fact I can count them on the fingers of my one hand!

I thought that even though there aren’t that many YouTube channels available it would still be useful to list them all in a blog post, because you never know when you will want to take a look at a Street Photography tutorial, or listen to a Street Photography idea / concept.

According to how we understand Street Photography, it is many things. Depending on the style of the Photographer, a Street Photo can be Artistic, or Rude, or Intrusive or all those together. A Street Photo can be Amazing, Boring, Full of people or devoid of people. So, you see, there are many styles of Street Photos out there. Introduction

Street Photography is a genre of photography that could be argued by most that it has it’s own etiquette. I find this logical since it involves interaction with other human beings and whenever there a more than one human being involved in some sort of interaction, rules must be followed, if not rules then at least something like a customary code of behaviour.

So this customary code of behaviour or etiquette, these DOs and DON’Ts if you prefer, can help us Street Photographers enjoy our Street Hunting to the max, but at the same time without getting ourselves into too much trouble.

In this post, I will share with you some things that you ought to keep in mind while Street Shooting.

I remember, when I was younger, my dad always used to tell me what I shouldn’t do (in a situation), before he told me what I should do. Now that I am a father myself, I understand that he was trying to protect me. So, after careful consideration and following his example, I think that it would be best to share the DON’Ts of Street Photography first and then in a another post, share the DO’s.

5 reasons to shoot in B&W

Introduction

Ever since I began street photography I have worked almost exclusively in black and white (or monochrome). I think this was partly influenced by the work of others, the traditions of street photography and also because of personal preference. The only times I will produce a colour image is if the colour is vital to the visual impact of the image. I have nothing against colour street photography and, in fact, I find it quite intriguing how styles and the use of colour or black and white varies by country and continent. For example, I have noticed, there appears to be far more colour street photography produced in Asia and North America than there is in Europe.

Introduction

Technology has certainly come a very long way and in just a short amount of time. One of the most shining examples of that is our mobile phones. Think back to the earliest variations and compare them to what we have now. Amazing! Besides being mini computers, they have become fantastic cameras. The quality of pictures we get these days is phenomenal when compared to just a few years ago. Really, our smartphones have become game-changers in the world of photography. Introduction

I’m a newcomer to street photography. And I mean NEW. I’ve only recently attempted it twice. I am, however, a big fan of the genre and I’m looking forward to diving deeper into it. That being said, the following is based mostly on my appreciation of the genre and not so much the experience.

1. Street Photography Has SOUL

This is hard to explain, but it’s the most important… at least in my book. We see pictures everyday. Beautiful landscapes, portraits, etc. , but some lack the soul. Street photography is that moment you see, and it packs the soul right into it. A true slice of life. Especially the people. Streetscapes have it as well. Maybe as I continue on with my list, this will explain it better.

Why I love Street Photography by Rob Heron

Introduction

When I first sat down to write this post I thought to myself, “this will be easy”, but how wrong I was. The thing with Street Photography is that a lot of it is spontaneous so you don’t get time to think, you just react. Anyway I’ve given it some thought and here it is;

1. A Lifelong Interest in People Watching

As I mentioned in my profile, I only started photography at the beginning of this year and street photography a short time after that. Throughout my adult life though, I have always been interested in people. I love watching them, their mannerisms, the way they dress etc. Be it while having a coffee at a street cafe, in the park, on the beach or just walking the streets there are infinite opportunities. This is what probably influenced me, more than anything else, to take up street photography.

Introduction

It is 00:50 and I have just about finished posting one of my recent photos on the Social Networks called “Legs”. “Legs” is a photo about a girl in a skirt walking in the street at night. She has great legs as you can imagine by the title and they inspired me to capture her, freeze her in time. What I felt, the anticipation, the satisfaction after the shot, the thrill, all those feelings are some of the reasons why I just love Street Photography!
