Introduction

2020 is upon us and so is a new promising decade! The Street Photography scene has changed so much within the last 10 years! I can’t even begin to imagine what it will look like in yet another 10, in 2030. If you think about it, digital street photography now dominates in comparison to 10 years ago when film street photography was still the way to go for decent imagery, and colour street photography seems to be the new standard, leaving black and white behind (not too far behind but still). Everyday more and more talented Street Photographers share their work from all around the world, unwillingly shaping the evolving street photography trends that constantly transform the genre, keeping it always interesting and fresh.

What this post is about?

The purpose of today’s post is to share with you 20 Street Photographers that are worth looking into in 2020.

This list is completely personal. I have no intention of discriminating, of setting any standards, or of imposing my opinion. This is just a list of who I think you should consider following in 2020. You don’t have to agree dear readers, so if you want to share your top20 or open a discussion, please feel free to do so by sharing names and links of Street Photographers you think are worth looking at in the comments.

Just a friendly note to all that think this is a great way for self promoting themselves, I will not share vanity comments 🙂 .

A Crowdsourced List Of Street Photographers

A couple of weeks ago we asked you Who do you think will be the 20 most Influential Street Photographers in 2017? and the feedback we received was just amazing. We really appreciate your participation. You recommended a lot of Street Photographers out of which a list of 124 names was finally made. Thank you!

You Recommended And You Voted

A week ago, we asked you dear Readers to do one more thing for us and that was to vote for your most influential Street Photographer out of the list of 124. You responded by voting 14,495 times! If you have been following this series of Influential Street Photographers you will notice that the votes are a lot less. Well, this time we added an IP restriction in order to avoid multiple votes from the same sources. We hope it worked!

Thank you!

It is understandable that each one of you is influenced by different Street Photographers for different reasons and that is what makes this vote even more interesting. Influences play an important role in the way an artist perceives the world and his/her art, so it is only logical that each one of us has different sources of inspiration, making our perception of what we consider “an influence” unique. What is important is that you all helped us with your vote to find who are the 20 most influential Street Photographers at this time according to you.

So here they are in the order you voted for them, starting with the Street Photographer that got the most votes:

Brussels Street Photography Festival Logo

A blockbuster street photography event is on the horizon and its dates on your calendar should definitely be highlighted. Be sure to mark October 28-30 for the Brussels Street Photography Festival!

The festival bills itself as a cultural project whose objective is to promote street photography as an urban research tool, a form of cultural communication and a visual art. And by the looks of what the organizers have plated, it will do just that. The festival’s main ambition is to provide an international platform that looks at Brussels through the fresh eyes of its citizens and engaged photographers, inspired by the city’s urban landscape.

One of the Street Photographers on this list, Thomas Leuthard, explained this nicely in his post when he shared the link to the poll on his facebook page. He said:

“Make your personal suggestion, who is the most influential street photographer for you. Not the best, not the most famous, not the coolest, the one who influences you…”

So here they are:
