PhosAthens 2019. Version 3 of the PhosAthens Street Photography Festival

PhosAthens v3 – Three times is a charm!

Today we are very excited to announce that PhosAthens is back for the 3rd time

PhosAthens is the original PHOS Street Photography Days festival that started it all in the capital of Greece 3 years ago in November 2017. Since then the Phos franchise has spread its wings across the Balkans in Bucharest and in Sofia with plans of expansion to Belgrade in the near future as well.

If you are new to the PHOS festivals, all you need to know is that it they are dedicated to Street Photography 100%, that is why they are called Street Photography Days. The word Phos {foss}, comes from the actual Greek word ΦΩΣ, which means light, and as we all know, light is everything in photography.

StreetHunters have been part of the organising team since the very first PHOS and we are still very excited to continue doing this! Our role will be to share news and information concerning the PhosAthens festival and to update you in case of any changes, before, during and after the event. An alternative source of info is the official Phos website. If you are a facebook person that likes getting your news through that platform, then make sure you like the PhosAthens Facebook page to get your updates there.

The gorgeous Sardinian town of Alghero will be the site of one of the new international street photography festivals of 2018!

The Alghero Street Photography Awards (ASPA) is a street photography festival organised and promoted by the cultural association “Officine di idee”, an organisation aspiring to become a reference point for the street and authorial photography. The founder of the festival is none other than Marcello Perino, a friend of us here at Streethunters.net! You may remember Marcello from Street Hunt # 15 at the 1st annual Street Hunters Meeting in London, UK and Street Hunt # 17 in Rome Italy, where Marcello was the most gracious of hosts and a fantastic guide!

This Italian street photography festival and its contests aim to promote and provide exposure to all interested authors, not only to the bizarre and sensational shot, but also to the “street photography” that can document. In a time of overabundance in the “street” genre, where shots are mostly ‘drowned’ in the unstoppable immediacy of social media, the goal is to appreciate those who can show an interest in posterity through their work.

    Introduction

I had the pleasure of participating in the PhoS2017 Street Photography Days – Athens Street Photography Festival last weekend as a lecturer and as a member of one of the parties (Streethunters.net) that organised the event together with iFocus, BULBphotos Collective and the SCP community. Phos is the Greek word for “Light“.

PhoSAthens (#PhoSAthens), as we like calling it for short, is the first and only free street photography colloquium in Greece, made by street photographers for street photographers. You can find more information about the festival in our official PhoSAthens press release.

I had high expectations for the festival, and I’m delighted to say they were more than surpassed! I enjoyed myself immensely and from what I heard, everyone that attended and participated really liked the experience.

    Introduction

The Brussels Street Photography Festival is fast approaching and time to submit photos for the contests is running short!

The BSPF will take place on October 6-8 across several locations in Brussels, and the deadline for Open Call is Tuesday, August 1st. The main exhibition of the BSPF will show the work of the selected finalists from the contests’ entries! The four different street photography contests are: the International Singles, the International Series, the Brussels Singles and the Brussels Series. Winners will be announced during the exhibition opening, on Friday, October 6, 2017. As the contest titles suggest, the International Singles and Series submissions can be photographs taken anywhere in the world. The Brussels Singles and Series submissions must be shot in the Brussels-Capital Region.

    Introduction

Just over the horizon, past the summer months, there’s a street photography event that’s not to be missed. Ladies and gentlemen, an Open Call is underway for the second edition of the Brussels Street Photography Festival (BSPF)!

The Brussels Street Photography Festival (BSPF) is a cultural project whose objective is to promote street photography as an urban research tool, a form of cultural communication and a visual art. Inspired by Brussels’ urban landscape, the main ambition is to provide an international platform that looks at Brussels through the fresh eyes of its citizens and engaged photographers. The festival will take place on October 6-8 across several locations in Brussels.
