Introduction

Roy Rozanski is the winner of the January 2017 Monthly Theme Contest. If you haven’t stumbled upon Roy before, he is a street photographer from Israel who shoots mostly in Tel Aviv. The theme of the month when Roy won was “Zebra crossings” and his image was selected from a pool of 55 zebra crossing themed street photographs!

Since January we have introduced new prizes for the winners of these monthly theme contests. All prizes aim to give the winners massive exposure on our website and our social profiles. But what are those prizes?

Introduction

The new year is underway, and The Street Hunters Monthly Theme Contest has a dozen new themes to partner up with it’s ration of months. At the beginning of the year, we announced changes in the prizes to be awarded to the contest winners. Instead of giving away COSYSPEED Camslinger bags, we’re giving the winner exposure… something every photographer enjoys! Who doesn’t want to have their work seen by more people? Our site has between 1500 and 2000 visitors a day and our YouTube channel is over 10,000 subscribers strong! The exposure comes in three ways. First, the announcement post, which proclaims the winner of the contest and showcases their winning image. Second, an interview feature with the photographer. And third, a YouTube slideshow of their work. The feature posts will remain on the web for as long as Street Hunters exists!

To kick off the new Monthly Theme campaign, we chose Zebra Crossings for January. We were looking for clever compositions using zebra crossings, and did we ever get some! In the end, a photographer who is no stranger to the Monthly Theme contests came away with the victory. In fact, he won just four months prior in September with his entry into the “Tattoo” theme ! AND, his photograph, “Untitled” was our Street Photo Of The Week 11/09/16! Ladies and gentlemen, Roy Rozanski is a photographic force to be reckoned with.

Roy Rozanski is an Israeli street photographer I discovered in the Streethunters.net Readers Flickr group. He shoots mostly in Tel Aviv, the capital of Israel. Tel Aviv is a small albeit vibrant city that is full of interesting characters and has amazing light most days of the year, so it is a perfect place to practice street photography. Roy likes capturing photographs as close as possible using wide angle lenses and small cameras. He takes advantage of the Tel Aviv light as best he can. Combined with his talent for street shooting and his keen eye he manages to produce amazing results.

As he himself mentions, he is inspired by great photographers such as Martin Parr and Elliot Erwitt and tries to channel their influence when creating his own work.

Roy could be characterised as an impulsive photographer who doesn’t like following rules. He admits that what interests him the most is to freeze moments in time that have a story to tell. Composing by following known rules, such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, etc take a back seat if it means taking an important shot.
