Street Hunt 20 - Rethymno Carnival

Introduction

Dear Streethunters.net Readers,

It has been a while since our last Street Hunt video release but the wait is now over. After a couple months of shooting, organising content and producing this video it is time for you all to enjoy it.

Today, we will take you on a tour of Rethymno city in Crete during the 2016 Carnival day. We start our video in the heart of the carnival parade and just let loose and go with the flow, following the fun around each corner until we reach a most unexpected finale. I say we, because this time the team is made of four street photographers. Digby Fullam editor of Streethunters.net, Dan Berntsson street photographer and good friend from Sweden, Anastasia Nazare street photographer and good friend from Greece and myself.

Rethymno Carnival

Dear Streethunters.net Readers,

I live in Rethymno. Rethymno is a small city, or big town (can’t really decide) in Crete. During the winter is it quite quiet and dare I say boring. During the summer it is insanely busy, full of people visiting from all over the world! Luckily for us down here in the south or up here in the north (everything is a matter of perspective really) summer lasts anywhere from 7 to 9 months depending on how lucky we are. But this post is not about the seasons of Rethymno, or the weather.

Bye bye pirates

Introduction

Since the summer of 2009 I have been living in the lovely little town of Rethymno in Crete, Greece. Rethymno is a small town that is located on the north shores of Crete in the mid-west part of the island. Rethymno is also the name of the county that Rethymno town is located in. Rethymno county is much larger and covers a big area from the north to the south shores of the island. I like Rethymno because of the old part of town that has a strong Venetian influence. Most of the old buildings there are still inhabited, mostly by older people or families and the narrow paths and small squares are almost always full of children playing or of older people relaxing. The reason for this is that no cars are allowed in the Old Town and this makes it safe for families to let their kids have fun in the streets, just like kids had fun in the old days. Those narrow streets and little alleys, the squares and the seaside road are where I practise my art. This is where everything started for me.
