Street Photo of the week by Lukas Vasilikos

Lukas Vasilikos is a world recognised contemporary Street Photographer from Greece. He lives in the greater Athens area and works almost anywhere, depending on where the road takes him. The work of Lukas Vasilikos is inspiring and moving. It impacts the viewer in all sorts of different ways. He is a “polymorphic” photographer that manages to create using many different styles, but one thing is always common amongst all his photos. Emotion. Emotional photography is something very hard to achieve. To make viewers feel strongly about something, by reminding them of things from their life, by moving them, by provoking them is indeed a talent that is very hard to find.

You can see more of Lukas Vasiliko’s photographic work on his Flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/vasilikos/ or his website. You can also visit his YouTube Channel to view slideshows of his images.

Street Hunters Monthly Theme Contest

“Today we are very excited to announce the Monthly Theme Contest!”

Dear StreetHunters.net Readers!

The Monthly Theme Contest is going to be a fun activity that anyone can participate in! Every month we will announce a Theme. Based on this Theme we would like you, our Readers to email us each a Street Photograph at streethunters.net@gmail.com. So for example if the theme is Umbrella in the rain, then we would like you to each send a photo with a Umbrella in the rain. Your photo can be taken any time in history, we don’t mind, as long as it has been taken by you and nobody else. Once you send us your picture, we will decide which are the 10 best ones and we will post them on our website. Then, we will ask you to vote for the best photograph out of the 10. The best photograph will earn one spot in the annual StreetHunters.net 2015 calendar which we hope to print at the end of the year!

Motion blur intro

Introduction

A street photo can have a lovely sharp look, where everything is in focus and frozen in time, but is can also be an imperfect image, a shaky photo that is made in such a way though that radiates dynamism and motion. Most of us just set our camera’s to A or P mode and let the camera do all the shutter speed calculations. Unless the lighting is bad, this will usually get us some pretty sharp images. There are other times when we like setting our camera to S mode and adjusting our shutter speed the maximum possible speed, so everything is perfectly frozen at the click of our shutter button. I do all the above 95% of the times I am out shooting, because I feel that if my photographs are crisp, they are somehow better. Most of the times, this is true, but there are times when I do not do anything of the above and I decide to have some fun with my camera in S or M mode by setting my shutter to slower speeds. By doing this, I can become creative with blur, motion blur!

Types of Motion Blur in Street Photography

I can think of 3 types of Motion blur in Street Photography. I am not referring to blur in general, but specifically Motion blur. In this post we will not talk about lens blur or zoom blur. Those are other techniques that don’t produce a sense of speed. Ok, maybe zoom blur does, but not in the way we want, because in zoom blur it is the focal length that changes, not the subjects in the photo or the position of the camera. We will discuss only blur types that can help give your photos movement.

Poll - The Best Cities For Street Photography

Dear StreetHunters.net Readers,

A few days ago, we had a very interesting discussion in our private Group on GooglePlus concerning the best Cities for Street Photography and it turns out the we all suggested some amazing locations! The suggestions kept on coming in so we thought that it would be great if we used this information to comprise a nice list of The Best Cities For Street Photography and then share it with all of you through our website. But seeing that each one of us had something different to add to the conversation we decided to just make a relevant poll and ask every one to participate so we can pick the Top 10 Cities and write a cool blog post about them in the short future!

So, here it is folks, our Poll including all the Cities mentioned in that Community post for you to choose from. We have left the Poll open to suggestions in case you want to add more locations, but make sure you spell them right otherwise we might end up with more than one entries for some places. Also, this is a Poll where you can vote multiple options, not only one. We thought it would be better that way, since most of us don’t have only one preference.

NOTE: This poll will be active for 1 week

Street Hunt 4

Introduction

Today’s video is interesting because my Street Hunt takes place in a completely different environment to what you are used to seeing until now. This Street Photography video has been shot in Athens, the capital of Greece. A city with a great and amazing history, a city that is full of millions of interesting people!

In this Street Hunt I walk from Zografou all the way down to Gazi in the centre of Athens. It is a long walk through different versions of Athens. You will see me take photos in the cosmopolitan Panepistimiou avenue, shoot street in some other parts of the Greek capital that are more dodgy, I will speak to amazing characters to ask for Street Portraits and I will take a photo of a Red Door.

In the video I use my APS-C Sony NEX-6 with various settings, depending on the situation. The lens I use is a 35mm, equivalent to 50mm full frame. I love this lens because it is perfect for nearly any situation.

So, stick around, sit down, relax, grab a bowl of pop corn, or whatever makes you feel comfortable and enjoy this months busy, noisy, versatile Street Hunt!

Stay Sharp & Keep Shooting!

Andrew, Casper and myself are all doing this because we love Street Photography. La Defense 2011by Mickael Liblin

Street Photo of the week by Mickaël Liblin

Since we started this weekly Friday Feature we have been sharing with you selected photographs from Street Photographers from all around the world. Each Street Photographer has has a special style that works as a unique identifier. The list of these Street Photographers had be written by the Street Hunters team a long time ago, I think it was originally composed in October and we have been following it to the letter. The other day, Andrew, Casper and myself, thought that it would be awesome to spice this weekly feature up a bit and to start featuring some of the StreetHunters.net Readers photos in addition to Street Photographers on our list, as well as the photo of an old Master Photographer. So, that way we will get a nice mix of Friday Features that will have a famous contemporary Master Street Photographer one week, an amazing StreetHunters.net Reader the next week and an old Master Photographer the next. This way we think the Feature will be a little bit more interesting. Anyway, let us know what you think!

Untitled by Dimitris Makrygiannakis

Street Photo of the week by Dimitris Makrygiannakis

We thought that for this week a colour photo would be best. So we looked at our list of the 50-60 Street Photographers we already have decided to promote in this weekly feature and decided to share Dr. Dimitris Makrygiannakis’s work with you this Friday.

Dimitris Makrygiannakis, a.k.a. ngravity is a gifted Street Photographer with an eye for the smart moment, the moment that can be considered symbolic. After observing his work it is obvious that Dimitris really pushes the boundaries of Street Photography, creating illusions through coinciding moments. This is very hard to achieve and needs a lot of practise and as he himself said, he wouldn’t have evolved in the way he has if he hadn’t devoted himself 100% to Street Photography for a few months. Dimitris lives and works as a doctor in Sweden and is originally from Greece.

Street Photo of the week by Sanja Buterin

Sanja Buterin is an amazing and gifted Street Photographer with a passion that can be noticed through her work. Her photography is a mixture of film and digital black and whites and covers a wide range of Street Photography styles. The versatility of her work is very enjoyable, because if offers different visual stimuli that can touch each person in a different way. She lives in Lovran, Croatia but travels as much as possible in order to capture more and more images! You can see more of Sanja Buterin’s photographic work on her Flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/prideandpassion/ or her GooglePlus profile page at https://plus.google.com/u/0/103842950754802747055/posts.
