This Week Streethunters.net 30/10/17 to 5/11/17

Introduction

In keeping with our recent tradition, we’re doing a run-down of the previous week’s action and events on Streethunters.net and on our various social media pages with ‘This Week on Streethunters.net’. Remember, you can have a browse through earlier Streethunters.net weekly summaries by heading over to the ‘This Week’ archive pages of the website. But right now, it’s time to head back over the last week and explore what’s been going on!

We Need Camera Bags!

Unfortunately for the second week running we had no new camera bags to share with you because we have completely run out. So if you’re a fan of this feature, make sure you send in your camera bag. It doesn’t matter what your street photography setup is, just send it in! Without your camera bags, we can’t make any new ‘What’s in your camera bag?’ posts!

The Streethunters.net Facebook Group Cover Photo for the week commencing 30th October 2017 by Jodie House.

With no camera bag, we kicked off our week by selecting our favourite street photo from the superb shots submitted to the Streethunters.net Facebook Group over the last week. Our pick was this amazing photo by Jodie House! Not only does this street photo depict a quintessentially British beach scene, but Jodie’s fantastic timing and vision with the shutter and the cloud of vape smoke makes it brilliantly off-the-wall and surreal too. Superb work Jodie, well done!

Feature Post – Interview with PhoS Athens Series Winner Streetmax21

We’d been eagerly anticipating releasing this week’s feature post for some time. It featured an exclusive interview with Streetmax21, the First Jury Prize Winner of ‘The Series’ category of the PhoS Athens street photography festival. We interviewed Streetmax21 as part of our ongoing role as co-organisers of the PhoS Athens free street photography event, which is now less than a week away from launching. Make sure you check out the official PhoS programme of events if you fancy attending! Streetmax21 gave some really well thought-out and considered answers to our probing interview questions, so make sure you give his interview a read too, and any fans of street photographer interviews will be well served browsing through the interview archive on our site, where we’ve featured a host of interviews with all sorts of different street photographers, including the winners of our monthly theme contests!

Streethunters.net Flickr Group Updated

Street photographers from around the world are always busy submitting their top street photos to the Streethunters.net Flickr Group, so we always make sure we find time during the week to review the pending submissions to the group. The criteria for entry to the Flickr Group is very strict, as the goal is to create a gallery packed with the best contemporary street photos anywhere on the web. Go and give it a look and tell us what you think!

October 2017 Street Photography Contest Submissions

As the week began to draw to a close it was time for us to reveal the submissions for our October monthly theme contest. For October we asked you to send in street photos which featured ‘Shadows Telling a Story’, one of the most challenging themes we’ve ever chosen for a theme contest. As a result, we had to disqualify a lot of images, so those street photographers whose images made the final 30 should feel very proud! We three editors had a tough time selecting our one favourite image each to put forward as our 3 nominations for the final vote, so check out the article to find out the reason why we each selected the photo we did. And stay tuned next week for the announcement of the month’s winner!

November 2017 Monthly Theme Contest – Hatred

With the October nominees announced and a new month upon us, we’re now accepting submissions for the November monthly theme contest, for images conveying the emotion of ‘Hatred’. Read through the article and submission requirements, and then get browsing through your Lightroom library, hard disk folders, or negative stack for your best shot to send in to us. Remember the winning photographer will enjoy the prize of great publicity for their street photography online, with an exclusive interview with Streethunters.net, a slideshow of their favourite street photos on our YouTube channel, and their winning photo featured as the cover shot on our Facebook, Twitter and G+ pages. You have until 25th of November 2017 to submit your shots to us, so good luck!

That brings this week to an end for us here at Streethunters.net, but stay tuned next week for more hot street photography news and articles for you to enjoy.
