Press Release: Brussels Street Photography Festival Opening
The second edition of the Brussels Street Photography Festival (BSPF) is opening this Friday, launching a weekend full of street photography goodness including photo contests, workshops, exhibitions, lectures, photo walks, photo feedbacks and more!
The BSPF describes itself as a cultural project whose objective is to promote street photography as an urban research tool, a form of cultural communication and a visual art. Inspired by Brussels’ urban landscape, the festival’s main ambition is to provide an international platform that looks at Brussels through the fresh eyes of its citizens and engaged photographers.
The festival program is organized around four photography contests where the best images submitted will be displayed in an open exhibition in Brussels. The main exhibition opens on Friday, October 6 2017, 7pm at Galerie Ravenstein, featuring the work of the selected finalists from the contests’ entries. It will run through October 20, 2017. There will also be an exhibition showing the work of guest photographers and a few photo collectives from Wednesday, October 4 until Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Muntpunt, Brussels.
The exhibitions will then be followed by activities that look to explore street photography around different cultural events such as exhibitions, projections, talks, discussion panels, photo walks, portfolio critiques, workshops and parties. The exhibitions are open to all public and are presented at no cost. All of these activities will be in English. The full program can be found at: www.bspfestival.org/en/program/ .
One of these activities will include the ClikClik contest, a competition in which participants have only 24 hours to make their picture based on a theme given at the last minute. For 24 hours, on Saturday, October 7, participants registered in the ClikClik contest will capture images in the city of Brussels based on a theme announced the day before and send their best picture before 5:00 AM Sunday. The best 20 pictures will be printed and exhibited on the closing night of the BSPF on Sunday, October 8 at Hotel BLOOM! A sole winner will be announced during that night. The prize for the winner is 400 EUR. The entrance fee is 15 EUR. Full details can be found at /www.bspfestival.org/en/contests/clikclik/ .
The BSPF is curated by the Brussels Newsroom, an urban research-oriented platform that seeks to identify and disseminate the fundamental elements that shape Brussels’ daily life; and the people of WorldSP.co, the popular tumblr-based street photography site featuring monthly interviews, organizing theme weeks / months and carefully curating and regularly promoting the finest content on tumblr related to street photography.
