July 2017 Monthly Theme Contest Submissions
Dear Streethunters.net Readers,
The seventh Monthly Theme Contest photos for 2017 have been submitted and we have made our choices. Please keep in mind that the process of choosing a photo from the July 2017 Street Photography Contest Submissions was quite hard!
But let’s take a look at all the photos that were submitted and accepted in this Monthly Theme Contest.
ATTENTION: Photos that didn’t meet the Theme or the Editors criteria were not chosen to be in the shortlist. They have been disqualified or removed. So if your pic isn’t in the shortlist, don’t get discouraged. Try again next month!
At this moment I would like to thank each and every participant for submitting their photograph. We have a great collection of photos with “The Colour Blue” to show you! This time we had 30 valid submissions which can all be seen below.

The July 2017 Street Photography Contest nominees
Every month each one of us Streethunters.net editors picks one photo as a nominee. Here are the photos we chose and the reasons why:
Andrew Sweigart
“Again, there was a flood of submissions for our color-themed Monthly Contest, and this time they were for the color blue. With these color themes, I take some time to look for potential images during my daily travels. Usage in mental snapshots in the routine hustle and bustle. I must say blue posed quite the challenge. Just finding good usage of the color blue, much less clever and creative instances was difficult. This shot nails it, though. Blue is the obvious unifying element in this image. The woman’s solid blue top and white and blue vertical-striped pants make a lockdown link to the refuse/roll-off truck behind her, with it’s blue and white paint. Better yet is the juxtaposition of the blue patterns, with the truck’s horizontal lines versus the vertical lines on the woman’s pants! Wrap those elements up with solid composition and you have a winning shot!”

“What a photo! Straight off the bat we’ve got a brilliant sea of blue which perfectly epitomises our contest theme. But there’s so much more going on with this street photo than that. It has been shot from a brilliant point of view, offering an unusual viewpoint which also works perfectly to showcase the awesome scene unfolding before our very eyes. This image puts me in mind of the kind you often see in National Geographic, and serves to conjure a great feeling of wanderlust. I want to be in this scene and find out exactly what event or ritual is taking place to create it too! I have to mention the other colours we see here in this shot as well – in addition to the several shades of blue we’ve got the dark swathes of black from the men’s hair interspersed with these glorious flashes of red – brilliant! Best of all though, and what truly makes me fascinated by this street photo, is the amazing composition. To have so many people all come together to create a geometrical composition like this in the shape of a cross is absolutely extraordinary – it manages to fuse what seems like a dynamic spontaneous moment with something that equally seems meticulous organised, capturing a once in a lifetime scene perfectly. Superb!“

“As organiser of these posts, I usually get to choose my photograph last. Some times I find that my favourite photo has already been selected by one of my fellow Street Hunter Editors and I have to choose my second or even third best. But this time I was lucky to find that my favourite photo hadn’t been selected so I jumped to the opportunity! This photograph is simply beautiful. It has a lovely composition and it is “blue” so it fits the brief, however what makes it interesting and the photo of my choice is the subtle figure of the person walking past the window in the middle of the photo. I remember this photo when it had been submitted in our Facebook Group and had been chosen then by Digby Fullam as photo of the week, so seeing it again gave me a sense of familiarity and probably contributed to me liking it so much. Nice work and good luck!”
