Introduction

Not so long ago Street Photography wasn’t as known as it is today. I remember when I used to tell my friends back in 2012 that my hobby is shooting street, they had no idea what I was talking about! And, when I explained, they thought it was weird and pervy. But things have changed since then. Things have changed a lot.

Thanks to the passion of a few individuals such as Eric Kim, Blake Andrews and Yanidel to name a few that constantly kept sharing their ideas and experiences about Street Photography through their blogs, the genre has now reached a new level of recognition.

It was not only the passion of the aforementioned individuals though that made Street Photography what it is today. In the past 20 years, Street Photography collectives have been appearing all over the web, spreading the genre’s gospel through their collective works and various Street Photography related interviews and articles. The first and most known of all the collectives is international street photography collective iN-PUBLiC. When iN-PUBLiC launched it inspired thousands and since then many collectives have sprung up. Amazing photographers from around the world have joined forces, sharing their works and attracting more and more people to this ever-growing genre of photography that is arguably one of the hardest, most enjoyable and definitely the most unpredictable of all genres.

Ever since I started getting hooked on Street Photography I have had an interest in Street Photography Collectives. Throughout the years of me searching the web for new Street Photography related posts, interviews and ideas I have discovered many collectives that have grabbed my attention. Anyone that knows me well knows that I like organising information, it is kind of like a thing I do, so I have made a list of bookmarks over the past years to make sure I don’t lose this valuable information. Now that this list has grown to a large size and it has started to mature – with very few changes in the past couple of months – I have decided that it is time to share it with you.

I will not be sharing all my links, because some of the collectives in my bookmarks don’t exist any more, such as the amazing APF Collective. Their website is dead and their last post on their FB page was in November 2016.

Anyway, here is my ever changing list of Street Photography Collectives, as it is today, the 8th of June 2017. I hope you find it interesting and inspiring.

  1. One I’ve recently found is http://www.deadbeatclubpress.com/ although the website is to their published works, they are a group collective from California.

Not sure how much Street Photography London is a collective, I thought it was a one man operation but could be wrong.

    • Thanks for sharing George, however they class themselves as publishers. I looked through their facebook page and they seem to promote their books, so I will not include them.
      I appreciate your suggestion though.

  2. Another great post. Yes,There are a surprising number of people taking up this amazing craft. I can only think that digital photography has had something to do with this, catapulting the art of street photography into a New Renaissance. I feel certain that there will be some exciting times ahead for the craft, as technology continues to provide the means to make it simple and easy enough for everyone to enjoy. We are all photographers now and we are using anything from mobile phones to expensive rangefinder cameras to produce some amazing work. I’m very much a traditionalist with my own work when it comes to composition but I have seen some great images that pay no attention to such rules. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. The magic for me lies in the content of an image and not who or how a photograph was taken or with what camera or lens for that matter. Street photography is all about the passion for people and finding something interesting happening in mundane situations. That is where it begins and ends for me.

There are a few collectives still around that can easily be accessed on the Internet. Of course, Magnum is the greatest collective of all time and is often my landing point when I’m in the mood to browse images from the ‘greats’. Here is a new collective of photographers that might interest you. The site is French but there is an option to translate which isn’t bad. However, street photography has its own language that we all understand, so it isn’t really a problem. https://www.fragmentphotos.com/ Hope you like it.

  3. Inspiring list! Some great collectives on there with brilliant work. Not sure why Street Photography London is on there as it’s not a collective, just a one man band.

  4. Hello, I’m a member of “La Calle es Nuestra” collective. Thanks for add us into the list. We are making a big effort to bring the street photography to the Spanish community!

  5. Hello Spyros, thanks for including Street soul photography in this fantastic list friend. We are working hard since 2013 for to share the street photography around the world. We are very happy!

  6. Hi Spyros,

We run a street photography collective based in a very underserved part of the world: Washington, DC

We would be thrilled if you would add us to your list!

    • Hello Ryan,

Thank you very much for your comment and for sharing your collective. I received your email too :).
When I next update the post, I will be adding your collective to the list.

      Stay Sharp & Keep Shooting!

  7. Hello streethunters

I just discovered your website and I am amazed. Super happy to have found that list too – I have a suggestion for an addition. We founded the first street photography collective in Switzerland last year. A month ago we welcomed new members and since then we are 16 photographers. The name is swissstreetcollective and you find us under swissstreetcollective.com.

We would be very proud to appear you this list. Thank you for the opportunity.

    Best regars
    Bastian Peter
