Press Release: Months Of Photography Paphos is back!
You may recall us talking about the Months Of Photography Paphos programs here last year. Well the highly interactive, educational and successful event is back for another run in 2017! The Public Art call for entries was announced here just a few weeks ago, but the official program is now in our hands and it is packed with another schedule of great activities and events! And, once again, all of them are at a low cost or free!
The purpose of the program is to offer quality events around the photographic art for three months and establish itself as an international photography festival comparable with others. MoPP says it’s specific objectives are to:
- offer to the public of Cyprus quality events about photography,
- provide an opportunity for Cypriots and other photographers to be trained,
- build a communication and collaboration platform for Cypriot photographers with their colleagues abroad and between cultural operators,
- accommodate new trends in artistic photography,
- and to promote the art of photography.
The program kicked off Friday, March 3 with a screening of the fantastic documentary, “Finding Vivian Maier”. A full slate of additional events are spread out over March, April and May. There are workshops, exhibitions, seminars, additional film screenings, a photobook exhibition, the “Fotomarathon” and “The Wall”.
There are three workshops scheduled. “INTUITION”, a three-day workshop with Michael Ackerman, renowned American photographer and Ilias Georgiadis, Greek photographer.
“CYANOTYPE” with Maria Efthymiou, photographer, member of CPS-Pafos Branch. And a Children’s Workshop with Efthymiou and Thanos Savvidis.
There are three exhibitions scheduled as well. “ROOM IN A WALL”, from photographer Aron Rossman-Kiss from Geneva. “BULBphotos Annual Exhibition”, where BULBphotos collective presents its members’ annual exhibition. And there is the aforementioned, “PUBLIC ART”, which will consist of 13 parallel solo exhibitions at 13 different spaces in the city of Paphos. The exhibitions will run for 28 days and the participants photographers will be selected by a jury after an open call.
“The Wall” is an installation of photos in a public open space (wall) aiming to decorate a depressed area of the city. The photos will stay in place for a year. The 3rd Cyprus Fotomarathon is a challenge, a contest for all of MoPP’s attendees. Within four hours the participants are asked to photograph on four specific themes in the city.
“Photography perceptions and perceptual mechanisms: From everyday life to the museum” will be an intriguing seminar presented by Dr. Konstantinos Tsagkarides and Dr. Theopisti Stylianou-Lambert. The Cyprus Photographic Society has organized yet another great, informative and affordable program for photographers of all ages and from all walks of life. They are to be applauded! By all means, if you’re in the vicinity, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to one or all of these events!
