October Monthly Theme Contest 2016 submissions
Dear Streethunters.net Readers,
The tenth Monthly Theme Contest photos have been submitted and we took a good look at them all and finally made our choices. Please keep in mind that the process of selecting a photo is very difficult and challenging owing to the high standard of the photos entered!
First of all let’s take a look at all the photos that were submitted and accepted in this Monthly Theme Contest.
ATTENTION: Photos that didn’t meet the Theme criteria have been disqualified by the editors. Please make sure to read the requirements carefully before submitting an image
At this moment I would like to thank each and every participant for submitting their photograph. We have a great collection of photos with “Smoking” to show you! This time we had a record breaking 60 valid submissions which can all be seen here:
*All images that were not sent in at the correct size, have been resized. This might affect the quality of entries that were sent in very small sizes.
The nominees
Every month each one of us Streethunters.net editors picks one photo as a nominee. Here are the photos we chose and the reasons why:
Andrew Sweigart
“So much to like about this shot. First, the woman is smoking that cigarette like there’s no tomorrow! Cheeks drawn in, lips tight… pulling hard. Serious drag on that thing! The image quality and the illumination make the subject pop out from the drab sky above her. Considering the angle of the shot, flash was necessary and perfectly executed. The bright color of her garb and her gold jewelry leap out and the magnificent detail of her face is mesmerising!”

Digby Fullam
“What a powerful shot! I love the punchiness of the flash, and the effect of the slow shutter speed on creating the light trails of neon in the background. Our subject looks like he has a bit of attitude which helps give this photo a gritty feel. He is nicely placed in the centre of the frame for symmetry too. I particularly like the way he is tilting his head back and his cigarette hand is raised, which, allied with the light trails I mentioned earlier, gives the shot some dynamism. Nice!”

Spyros Papaspyropoulos
“I love the emotion that conveys from this shot. The old lady, walking in the street, needing her nicotine fix, trying to re-light her cigarette. She needs it bad and you can see it from her body language. You can tell that she is shielding the cigarette and lighter from wind. This is making her more agitated, nervous. Click, click, damn! I want to smoke! Also, the character is so interesting. Look at the 5 hair clips, the really dark sunglasses, the scarf and jewelry. Such a character. Light, shadows, tones, everything technical is great. Composition is ok, probably shot on the go, but this shot isn’t about composition, but about the story. Well done.”

Stay tuned to find out who will win the Contest and the Camslinger 105 Street Edition!
So there you have it Streethuntes.net Readers. We have made our choices and now we have to debate which one is the best out of the 3. Within the next couple of days we will reveal this month’s winner of the contest and the COSYSPEED Camslinger 105 Street Edition, so stay tuned!
